| More or Less
We will learn how to write that one number is bigger than another number. This means will see if one number is more than, or less than, another number.
You should always know if you have more or less of something. Which sack has the greater number?
There is a symbol we use to show that one thing is less than another thing:
We Want More Which sack has the greater number?
Number Line We can compare numbers on a number line. We call that graphing. Below we show 2, 7, and 22 on the number line using a red dot. Graph: 2, 7, and 22.
Look at 2. What do you notice? It’s the first number on the number line reading left-to-right. All numbers to the right of 2 are greater than 2. So, 7 and 22 are greater than 2. Let’s say it with our less-than symbol.
Look at 7. We see that 2 is to the left of 7. So, 2 is smaller than 7. 22 is to the right of 7. So 22 is more than 7. Let’s write this using the symbols we learned above:
What if you have the same amount of things?
