eTAP provides quality curriculum for the core subjects of Mathematics, English, History and Science for grades 1 through 12.
The middle grades include questions, instruction, connection to supplemental free educational videos and other internet learning resources that students may use to answer any questions they have.
This curriculum for our online middle school program is divided into Lessons, with topics shown in the Table of Contents (TOC). These lessons are grouped by subject and grade level. Each lesson contains:
Parents can use eTAP as their complete instructional program or as a supplement to other programs that they are using. Some homeschool parents provide supervision of their children's education using resources from eTAP. Other homeschool parents enroll in local charter or public schools with independent study programs. Some of these schools will pay for eTAP membership fees. Please see our Success Stories to see how parents have used the program.
It is recommended that each of your students spend about four hours a day on the four core subjects. This will vary from day to day, allowing homeschoolers flexibility for other valuable learning experiences outside the home such as visits to the library, museums, parks, art, music lessons, and sports.
Students use eTAP's tutorial style learning to supplement their existing classroom and textbook instruction. The lessons and the attached resources are easily used to provide further detail, more practice, and remediation, as necessary. eTAP simplifies instruction for students that have had difficulty succeeding in the traditional classroom. And, as a result, has greatly increased the success of students with different learning styles by allowing them to select the learning resources that best fit their needs.
Whichever path you choose, eTAP's online middle school program will engage students, making them active learners.
Our program is self-administered and uses formative assessments with Pretest, Practice and Post Tests. After taking the pretest, a student who gets all answers correct can advance to the next lesson. Alternatively, incorrect answers identify what the student needs to learn. They read the instruction, watch the videos and take the practice test. Finally, when they get correct answers on the post test, they print out the page as a record portfolio of the school work they have completed. This portfolio record can be used to track what the student has learned, and can also be used to satisfy local school agencies' requirements. If you decide to enroll your child in school at a later time, these records will help the school determine the right grade placement for your child. Also, eTAP's student management software saves a record of all tests that have been completed, on your computer.
Middle school grades vary in different locations, but generally include some or all of grades 6 - 9. Since students can proceed at their own pace, the age range shown is only a guide.
In middle school, a self-instruction format is used. The Lesson Plan/Preview provides the objectives of the lesson instruction. The educator or parent may also help guide the student as she reads the instructional content and completes the practice exercises. A survey of eTAP students found that practice exercises were their favorite part of the program, because the practice work provides immediate feedback on how much they have learned and when they are ready to move on.
In addition to written eTAP instructional materials, links are provided to videos and other educational sites that contain additional relevant content and/or interactive programs. These give each student a range of learning materials to fit to his specific learning style.
Each lesson has a pre, practice and posttest. These tests are designed to help students both review and determine
their understanding of the instruction.
At the end of each lesson, there are additional problems and/or test questions on all lesson topics. These sections are designed to help students both review and determine their understanding of these topics. The test purpose is to assist the student in answering the type of question that may appear on standardized exams such as the STAR, ASVAB, GED, SAT, ACT, etc.
The time spent on each lesson will vary by student. We have indicated an average time needed to complete each lesson. This assumes that the student is spending about one hour each day on each of the four core subjects.
Each student easily proceeds at their own pace and advances to the next lesson or grade level when ready. Often students need additional time, yet some students complete eTAP courses early and quickly move to the next grade.
Middle School Mathematics has 7-10 lessons for each grade level. Our content covers the common core and local state standards. Each State's standards will vary as to the particular lessons covered at each grade level. The State Standard button on the Mathematics page will provide the lesson sequence according to the Texas State Standards as Texas has not adopted the common core standards. This may be used as a general guide for all states.
Grade 8 includes 10 lessons. These provide an introduction to Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. Depending on the progress of the student, study can be expanded into the beginning lessons of High School Geometry and Algebra. Again, about four weeks can be allowed for completing each lessons in each unit.
